Scientists are in the process of developing an artificial womb that humans can use. The Womb could replicate the tissues and fluids inside the Womb to aid in the development of embryos. It will also copy the biochemical processes that are required for the support of a baby. It would also require a connection to the fetus’s placenta and an exchange of oxygen and nutrients. It’s expected to be ready for use by humans within a mere ten years.
The idea behind the prototype is to offer premature babies the best likelihood of surviving. The concept is built on “total embryogenesis,” which means that an egg-fertilized egg can develop into full-term within the artificial birth womb. It can aid in developing embryos born in the early stages of 21 weeks gestation.
Researchers from researchers at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia have succeeded in testing the new technology. The process involved developing a “bio bag,” which resembles the prenatal fluid, allowing the fetus’s growth to occur within a secure environment. The bag also aids in monitoring the fetus and permits the removal of waste products and the provision of water and nutrients. It was created to mimic the mother’s uterus and grow as the baby develops.
